Sakura International Buffet at Yio Chu Kang

Ask any Singaporean what comes to mind when you say "Sakura", and they will tell you these 3 things:

1. They will sing "Sakura, sakura, la la la la la la la la.... "

2. They will break into a para para dance by Aaron Kwok. Omg the memories of this song.

3. SAKURA BUFFETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

Before Evilbean shows you the food, let's get into the Chinese New Year mood with a lion dance for the grand revamp of the Yio Chu Kang outlet!

"9129 - $2 big $2 small please!"

And my first "Yu Sheng" of the year!

You did not really "Lau Yu Sheng" if your table does not look like this:

"HUAT AR!"

After soaking in all the Chinese New Year mood, it's time for our stomachs to soak in the food!

The revamped outlet at Yio Chu Kang aims to bring all of us on a world food journey with different sections, each section with cuisines that are unique to the country. Essentially, you get to experience 7 countries at one single buffet location! The "travel destinations" include:

1. Hong Kong

2. Italy
3. Japan
4. Thailand
5. US
6. France

7. Singapore

Well, guess which country did Evilbean go to first?

Ding ding ding BINGO!

Japan, aka Sashimi Section!

Sakura International Buffet Japan section

The Japan section includes: Assorted Sushi & Sashimi, Cold appetisers, Chawanmushi, Cold Soba, Teriyaki Chicken, Tempura, Yakitori, Garlic Fried Rice. Dinner specials are: Salmon & Sweet Shrimp, Argentine Red Prawn, Salmon Belly, Tataki Bonito and Oyster with Wafu Dressing. Personally, I love the cute little cups with the Salmon & Sweet Shrimp (It was wiped out within few minutes)!

There is also a Shabu Shabu section with ingredients like oyster, beef, prawns and chicken! (Evilbean is not a fan of hotpot/steamboats/any-boat-variants though)

US Section:

Sakura International Buffet US section - Nacho Cheese Pump

I was genuinely surprised and delighted when it dispensed cheese! CAN I BRING THE WHOLE PUMP HOME?

US section includes: Nachos with Hot Cheese Sauce, Chicken Popcorn, BBQ Hot Dog, Breaded Fish Fingers, Meatballs in Tomato Sauce, Baked Cheese Macaroni. DO JUST SPAM THE CHEESE FOR ULTIMATE CHEESE PLEASURE.

France Section:

Sakura International Buffet Prawns

France section includes: A salad bar, Seafood Station, Homemade Pickles, Gratinated Clams with Herbs & Butter, Poached Fish with Mustard White Sauce. Dinner specials are: boiled Prawns, Steamed Green Mussel, and a super-long name called the Whelk a la bourguignonne, which are escargots. Goddamnit France, what a name for snails!

Hong Kong Section:

Sakura International Buffet Bird Nest Egg Tart

The STAR of the whole buffet for me was definitely this - the Signature Portuguese Bird Nest Egg Tart! Crispy and flaky crust encasing a sweet, creamy, bird nest custard. This is so good, I just kept popping these tarts in my mouth at the station itself; I couldn't even wait to put it on a plate and bring it all the way back to my seats! This is a MUST-TRY!

Other Hong Kong food include: Liu Sha Bao, Chicken Siew Mai with Prawn Topping, Beancurd Roll, Lo Mai Gai and other assorted Dim Sum!

Local Section:

Sakura International Buffet Hainanese Chicken Rice

Although the Chicken rice was meh, the Hainanese Chicken is GOOD with the chili! I must have had at least 3 servings of the chicken itself! Other local food includes: Signature Boston Lobster & Argentine Prawn Hokkien Mee, Kambing Soup, Otah Otah, Chicken Satay, Hiroshima Oyster Omelette, and a DIY Noodles Station for Laksa and Yong Tau Foo.

I passed the Thailand section and Italy section as I was filled to the brim by my second round. Stomach getting smaller omg. Just in case you wanna know, the Thailand section includes: Pineapple Fried Rice, Green Curry Chicken, Fish Cake, Caramelised Tapioca and Papaya Salad.

The Italy section includes: Hawaiian Pizza, Bread Bowl, Lasagna and a Pasta Section. But seriously, all these food will overload your system with carbo very fast, so unless you have a really big appetite, you might wanna skip the Italy section like I did!

Evilbean Pro Tip to Eating Buffets: Take just one small portion of everything to try first. Control your urge to spam in your first round. Eliminate those food that are not to your liking, and determine which food you can eat a lot. SPAM THOSE LIKE A TRUE BLUE SINGAPOREAN.

Sakura International Buffet God of Fortune

If you were wondering why suddenly got one God of Fortune out of nowhere, we did as well. Halfway through gorging ourselves, "FA DA CAI AR, FA DA CAI!" blasted through the speakers which gave everyone a shock. And this is how a God enters -  with a loud bang! He was cute though!

Sakura International Buffet Haagen Dazs Chocolate Lava Cake

I liked the green tea parfait and the rainbow cake. The Haagen Dasz Chocolate Lava Cake is a MUST TAKE AT LEAST 2 SERVINGS OR REGRET kind of thing - it's pretty good!
