All of us avid movie-goers possess this special ability - we are able to judge how good a 2 hours movie is by just watching the 2 minutes trailer. The more movies we watch, the higher the level of our ability.

Using Evilbean's Level 86 Trailer-Ability, he shall determine the Evilbean ratings of some of the upcoming Local and Asian films that will be coming to our shores for the next few months by just looking at their trailers.

Release Date: 16th October 2014
The Golden Era (黄金时代)

Golden Era Movie Poster

This film has received numerous awards:

- 71st Venice Film Festival Closing Film
- Toronto International Film Festival 2014 Masters Selection
- Busan International Film Festival 2014 Gala Presentation
- HK entry for the 87th Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film

I would like to also give a personal award for this film:

- Puts me to sleep within 1 minute Film 2014.

I am sure that there are people who loves this kind of genre. Not for me, unfortunately.

Predicted Film Rating (Out of 5 Evilbeans):   (1)

Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2 (单身男女2)

Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2 Movie Poster

Wait WHAT? What's the trailer about?

The synopsis for this film is equally ambiguous - "After losing his girl in a love triangle, Shen Ran falls in love with another woman, only to find himself still attached to his old flame. Meanwhile, his new love also finds herself torn between him and another young man."

NO. Just no.

My Geeky Nerdy Buddies (大宅男)

My Geeky Nerdy Buddies Movie Poster

The trailer looks pretty okay, and Jam Hsiao looks like a total 宅男 in this film. However, I am not sure about the director Chu Yen Ping - who has a reputation for directing films that break records. Not the high ones, but for breaking lowest records in the box office. One comment wrote: "導演朱延平....該不會又只有預告能看吧==".

Predicted Film Rating (Out of 5 Evilbeans):   (1.5)

Release Date: 11 Dec 2014
The Eyes Diary

The Eyes Diary Movie Poster

If you are a horror movie from THAILAND, I expect weird shits from the ghost, not incessant crying and crying. There is nothing from the trailer that even spooked me. I am tempted to predict #1evilbean, but I will give Thai horror movies the benefit of doubt - #2evilbeans it shall be.

Predicted Film Rating (Out of 5 Evilbeans):   (2)

Release Date: Jan 2015
Bring Back The Dead (招魂)

Bring Back The Dead

Jessica Liu acts as a mom with a seven-year old son who died in a car accident. I found the trailer to be funny instead of scary, especially the part when the piano cover was hitting Jessica's hand repeatedly. Erm, hello lady, move away? Or are you enjoying the unique Thai-massage on your hands? And, the scene which she discovers the numerous crayon marks on the wall cracked me up - it's like a prelude to a home cleaner commercial.

Predicted Film Rating:   (2)

Release Date: 9th Oct 2014
Black & White: The Dawn of Justice (痞子英雄:黎明再起)

Black and White - The Dawn of Justice Movie Poster

Yes, the action director for this movie worked on Fast and Furious 5. But the CGI director for this movie must have worked on Spongebob Squarepants - the graphics were just so amateurish.

Hopefully Mark Chao and Lin Gengxin (who is the Fourteen Prince in Scarlet Heart) can save the show with their acting. Look out for the Evilbean's review on this film soon!

Predicted Film Rating:   (3)

Release Date: 16th Oct 2014
Haemoo (海雾)

Haemoo Movie Poster

The screenplay looks interesting, and the "based on true events" marketing tactic still works wonder in giving the film some sort of authenticity. It is said that we will be able to see how these crew members scheme, battle, and exploit their illegal human cargo on a stormy sea.

Besides, many people are looking forward to Park Yoo Chun's performance from the K-Pop band JYJ, as well as the lead actor of the Korean drama Rooftop Prince. This might be a pretty good film!

Predicted Film Rating:   (4)

Release Date: 30th Oct 2014
Kungfu Jungle (一个人的武林)

Kungfu Jungle Movie Poster

It is said that Donnie Yen aims to pay homage to the various martial arts masters in this movie. The scene with the large human skeleton looks epic. With action this good, this will no doubt be a solid 4.

Predicted Film Rating:   (4)
