Singapore Cafe - Rice & Fries at Changi Road

3 reasons why Rice & Fries is at least a #4evilbeans cafe:

1. They have DAMN GOOD SPAM FRIES.

2. They have DAMN GOOD LAMB SHANK.

3. Prices are NETT. That means no service charge and no GST. What you see is what you pay!

HOUSE SPECIAL - Iced Lemongrass Tea

Rice & Fries - Lemongrass Drink

There is love at first sight, and there is also love at fight sip. This not-in-the-menu Iced Lemongrass tea was exactly how I like my drinks to be - strong and delivers a punch. It's almost like they waft the stick of lemongrass in my mouth - SHIOK!

Definitely not for the faint-mouthed.

Mushroom Cappuccino ($6.80), Tomato Soup ($6.80)

Rice & Fries - Mushroom Cappuccino, Tomato Soup

I thought that the soup was a little lacking. The mushroom cappuccino was a little salty and the tomato soup was a little too sweet. The garlic bread that was served with the soup was delicious though.

Truffle Fries ($9.80)

Rice & Fries - Truffle Fries

The truffle fries, unfortunately, disappoints with its light truffle taste. The texture of the fries was good - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but the truffle taste needs to be cranked up a few notches in order for it to be satisfying. JUST HIT ME HARD WITH THOSE PETROL SMELL GUYS. HIT ME HARD.

Spam Fries with Salted Egg Sauce ($9.80)

Rice & Fries - Spam Fries with Salted Egg Sauce

Nope. The salted egg craze is not stopping. Especially not when these two are such heavenly combination! The spam fries were literally, YES LITERALLY, GONE within seconds after we all let our cameras "eat". It was so good, we had to order a second serving. You have to try this when you are here!

Pro tip: Dip the fries in the sauce instead of drizzling it all over so that they do not turn soggy. Unless, it's for the sake of Instagram. We all do crazy shit for Instagram nowadays.

Chili Soft Shell Crab ($15.80)

Rice & Fries - Chili Soft Shell Crab

This is a deep fried soft-shelled crab that is served with sweet chilli crab sauce and mantou. The gravy contains traces of ginger and hints of spices to bring out the aroma. However, I felt that the chilli could be spicier because #Singaporeans. If you like your chili crab to be on the sweeter side, then you would probably love this local favourite.

Also the PERFECT place to bring your "angmoh" friends who cannot take spicy stuff, but still want to try chili crab.

Poached Salmon ($18.80)

Rice & Fries - Poached Salmon

My camera could not capture the actual pinkness of this salmon, but trust me when I say that the colour on this Poached Salmon alone makes you salivate when you see it. It tasted as good as it looked - soft, tender and full of the oily omega 3 goodness!

Salted Egg Prawn Pasta ($19.80)

Rice & Fries - Salted Egg Prawn Pasta

You gotta pair your salted egg pasta with some of these Somersby Cider:

Somersby Cider - Apple/Pear

The sweet, refreshing taste of the Somersby Cider goes REALLY, REALLY WELL with the savoury saltiness of the salted egg pasta. Try it to believe it.

For their Salted Egg Yolk Pasta, you can choose between the deep fried prawn or the soft shelled crab. But honestly, try out the deep fried prawn. It was so well-fried that you can actually EAT THE HEAD AND TAIL, just like how you would eat cereal prawn!

Lamb Shank ($28.80)

Rice & Fries - Lamb Shank

This has got to be the star of Rice & Fries. Each Lamb Shank is a result of 72 HOURS of preparation in order for the meat to lock in the juices, while still retaining its tenderness. If you hold the meat up, the whole piece of lamb should slide off the bone easily. THAT IS A TESTAMENT OF TRUE LAMB MASTERY. This was really one of the best lamb shank I ever had!

Pork Chop [Pork Collar] ($16.80)

Rice & Fries - Pork Chop

The pork chop was a tad hard to chew as the meat was a little tough. I liked the garlic barbecue sauce though. It had a unique flavour, different from the regular barbeque sauce that we usually have outside.

Waffle with Double scoops of Ice-cream ($10)

Rice & Fries - Waffle with Double scoops of Ice-cream

I wasn't expecting much from the waffle but wow. The crispy exterior texture impressed the Evilbean, because he loves his waffles crispy!

Lemon Tart ($6.80)

Rice & Fries - Lemon Tart

The lemon tart was so sour and tangy that I probably cringed my face into a ball. I cannot take sour stuff because the stimulation is too much to bear... although, strangely, I love to be stimulated...

Chocolate Lava Cake ($9.80)

Rice & Fries - Chocolate Lava Cake

NO. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE BETWEEN THE CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE AND MATCHA LAVA CAKE. I CAN'T DECIDE NOOOOOOOOOOO.

Matcha Lava Cake ($9.80)

Am I #TeamChocolate or #TeamMatcha?

OKAY FINE I AM #TEAMMATCHA. Matcha always wins. You really can't go wrong with matcha, as long as it's not overtly sweet.

Rainbow Cheesecake ($7.80)

Rice & Fries - Rainbow Cheesecake

I like the efforts that were put into this cheesecake. Instead of just dumping in colourings into their mix, the rainbow cheesecake served here actually has DIFFERENT FLAVOURS for DIFFERENT COLOURS!

Try discerning all the flavours among yourselves - it makes for a good conversation. Well, unless you have very untrained tongue. In that case, it's time to work on those tongue man.

Here's the answer: strawberry, orange, pandan, yam, lemon, vanilla.

Overall, Rice & Fries is one of the places where you would want to visit again and again because of its good food and affordable prices. From starters (like spam fries with salted egg sauce), to mains (like Lamb shank), to dessert (like Matcha lava cake), to drinks (Somersby ciders), there is something really awesome at every course of your meal.

Together with a relatively cozy ambience, there is a good chance that you might not want to rise when you are in Rice & Fries. (Damn, my rhyming skills up there. Heh emoji)
