Singapore Crab Buffet PARKROYAL

There are the wanderlusters. They are the ones that will fill up their calenders with travel plans and itineraries of their next destination. They will always be on the lookout for the next getaway, either via Pinterest or travel blogs.

Then, there are the ultimate foodies. These are the ones that will plan their calenders with all the various food to feast on every month. July? DURIAN FEAST. August? SG50 FEAST.

September?

CRABS BUFFET FEAST.

"Battle of the Crabs Buffet" at Spice Brasserie, PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road, returns this September 2015 and I promise, this is a MUST-GO for all ultimate foodies. Why?

This is because Executive Chef Low Hoe Kiat of Spice Brasserie personally sources for the freshest crabs in the world and brings them to this buffet. He even went to the market in Busan, Korea, for his rendition of the Kimchi Crab. NO KIDDING.

With such meticulous attention to his crab supply, it is no wonder that the crabs I have tasted at this buffet were simply amazing!

Baby Crab Salad with Green Mango

Start off your buffet with this "rojak-style" baby crab salad with mango. This is the PERFECT appetiser to your crab feast. Sweet, tangy flavours tantalises your tastebuds while you chew on those baby-crabs that are evenly mashed and mixed together with other ingredients like the green mango and grated peanuts. The specially made 'rojak' sauce is definitely the star of this dish - add in about 3 to 4 tablespoon of them for that delightful spicy aroma!

Soft Shell Crab

ParkRoyal Crab Buffet - Soft Shell Crab

I have never really liked eating soft shell crab - it always feels like I am eating and chewing crab shells. But THIS! THIS WAS SO GOOD. The soft shell crab crumbled gracefully in my mouth, like bowling pins that was just struck by a 6 pound ball. The meat floss and the soft shell crab melted on my tongue, leaving behind only the sweet taste of ocean and a spicy hint of wasabi. You have to try this!

Steamed Marinated Spicy Crab with Light Sauce

It is never a good idea to start off with the heavy flavours first, so, begin your first crab with this steamed marinated spicy crab with light sauce. You can taste the natural sweetness of the crab as the sauce was not overpowering.

Stewed Kimchi Crab

This was the Busan crab that I was talking about. Not only are the crabs freshly sourced from Korea, the stone pot that is used to simmer the crabs were also from the land of K-Pop! If you love all things Korean, this is jinjja MASHITA!

Salted Egg Yolk and Butter Crab

Salted Egg Yolk and Butter Crab. One of the classic flavours that will never get old... Unlike the Evilbean.. who is getting older and older. OMG. Sad Emoji

Can I be a salted egg flavour? I don't wanna get old.

Stir-fried Crab with Jalapeno and Fermented Black Beans

ParkRoyal Crab Buffet - Stir-fried Crab with Jalapeno and Fermented Black Beans

This is an interesting flavour that is seldom seen in Singapore. The crabs here are stir-fried together with jalapeno and fermented black beans, and what you get out of this is a strong aroma of spices and a combination of salty and spicy flavours. This is best eaten while it's hot because the flavours can be quite muted and dull when it's cold.

Wok-Fried Crab With Garlic & Scallion

Strong aroma of garlic is present in this wok-fried crab that is served with scallions. Obviously, people who hate garlic is not gonna like the taste of this. Only true garlic lovers will know how to savour the intricate aromas of garlic and scallions in this dish.

Slow-braised Pumpkin Crab in Claypot

ParkRoyal Crab Buffet - Slow-braised Pumpkin Crab in Claypot

This has got to be one of the main star of the crab buffet. Swimming in rich, golden pumpkin gravy, the slow-braised crab is an amazing myraid of sweet and spicy flavours. Go deeper (that's what she said) and you will taste the different layers of sweetness: sweetness from the sea, sweetness from the crab and sweetness from the pumpkin.

The chef also cleverly infuses spicy undertones in the gravy so that we are not overwhelmed by the sweetness of this dish. This is one of the signature flavours, and I highly recommend you to give this rendition from Spice Brasserie a try. You will love it.

Besides these flavours, there are also local classic flavours like Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab that will be available at the 'Battle of the Crabs Dinner Buffet'. In fact, there are a total of TWELVE different flavours that promises to whet appetites. You gotta head down and discover all 12 of them yourself. You will be delightfully spoilt for choices!
